ABOUT WEERAMA

Weerama, meaning "TO PLAY" has developed from a very colourful past. In 1978 the Keep Australia Beautiful Committee merged with Council to form a Festival Committee. The committee was compiled by various interested groups and persons from within the then Werribee Shire. This group developed into the Weerama Coordinating Committee, now known as the Weerama Festival Committee Incorporated.

The Weerama Festival includes the Iconic Weerama Parade, Amusements, Craft Stalls, Activities, Music and much more.

Weerama Committee

The Weerama Committee is made up of volunteers elected in accordance with model rules to run the not-for-profit association and to ensure that the Weerama Festival is a success.

The Weerama Committee members for 2019-2020 are:

  • President: Penny Rudge
  • Treasurer: Jade McKenzie
  • Secretary: Amanda Littlejohn

Penny has lived in Wyndham for nearly 20 years. She resides in Werribee with her husband and two young kids. Penny has experience in running events and with her fantastic team, her goal to bring Weerama back to its glory days and celebrate Wyndham and all of its residents.

For Jade, Weerama has always held a special place in her heart. Not only does it run on her birthday every year, but she also walked in the parade as a young child and now watches her daughter do the same. Jade brings to the team a wealth of knowledge of the Wyndham area plus the passion to see Weerama succeed for generations to come.

Amanda found a love for planning events and completed her diploma in events which led her to start working with Weerama in 2016 to gain experience, not knowing that she would find a passion in working for the community. In 2018, she completed the Building Blocks Community Leadership Program.
